Editorial standards

PayrollDetective is an independent research project. The pages and tools on this site are produced by payroll professionals working from primary sources, reviewed on a fixed cadence, and corrected when they are wrong. This page documents how that works.

Source hierarchy

Primary sources first such as IRS publications, DOL Wage and Hour opinions, state DOL bulletins, and the NCCI scopes manual. Secondary sources second, such as peer reviewed tax journals and state agency FAQ pages. Industry vendor blogs are used only to identify what employers are being told, never as authoritative sources.

Review cadence

High impact pages including tools, tax rate tables, and top traffic content are reviewed quarterly. Reference pages are reviewed annually. Any page touched by a rule change is updated within 30 days of the change taking effect.

Corrections

Send corrections or factual disputes to contact@payrolldetective.com. We respond to corrections within 5 business days and update pages within 10 business days of confirming a correction is warranted. When we correct a page, we fix the error, note what changed, and update the page's "Last reviewed" date.
